Chinatown, Chinese New Year Singapore 2014

Gong Xi Fa Cai! Welcome to my blog. Yesterday morning I went early to Chinatown before the crowds to get some shots of the New Year decorations. It was a beautiful sunny, breezy, cool morning. Rare weather for Singapore. Even rarer that we have had three weeks of it!. It was fun wandering the streets and taking shots before most got up. As I was leaving the crowds were beginning to arrive. I hope you enjoy the photos

This is Pagoda Street

Part of the shophouse herittage that has remained in Singapore

I enjoyed the colourful lanterns and I make no apology for them featuring heavily in this blog!

Early light, deserted and mine!
Soooo rare to be able to take shots with this kind of sky in Singapore :):):)

Looking back up Pagoda Street with the sun behind me

New moon!

Young lady.....

The Sri Mariamman Temple is Singapore's oldest Hindu temple

You can see the entrance here to the left of the entrance to Pagoda Street

This is now the Year of the Horse...

...but these are Temple cows

Quite crowded!

People beginning to arrive

Big money, BIG PROSPERITY!

Lots of big money, LOTS OF BIG PROSPERITY!

People born in the year of the horse have ingenious communicating techniques and in their community they always want to be in the limelight

Exquisitely Chinese

Not graffiti!

I'm a sheep/goat. Apparently I am compatible with Horse people

No traffic.....yet

Just lovely

Just love the shophouses

In the heart of Chinatown at Chinatown Point, a lucky banyan tree or Wishing Tree has been installed. The tradition is to write your secret wishes on a card, tie it to a mandarin orange and throw it onto the tree. If the mandarin orange stays on the tree, it said that your wishes come true. Thanks for coming. May the year of the horse be full of health, love, prosperity and happiness.
