The beauty of the Phi Phi Islands

Hello and welcome (back) to my blog!

We had a week’s holiday on the Thai islands called Koh Phi Phi. The islands are off the South West coast of Thailand. You can get there by ferry (90 minutes) from either Phuket or Krabi.

We stayed one night and morning on Phuket and the first picture was taken from the balcony of our hotel room near Karong beach.

The rest of the pictures are an attempt to show you the beauty of the Phi Phi Islands. They are dramatic and stunning. Sheer limestone cliffs rising out of clear emerald green sea.

There are two main islands, Phi Phi Don and Phi Phi Lay. Phi Phi Don has been developed. Many would say too much and to the detriment of the natural environment of the island. There are lots of resorts. Phi Phi Lay is uninhabited. You can take longboat trips there. Phi Phi Lay has the famous Maya Bay (photo number 4) where scenes from the film ‘The Beach’ with Leonardo Di Caprio were shot.

We had a lovely time. We stayed in resorts up in the north east of the Island on Laem Tong beach. All we did was walk on the beach, go on boat trips around the islands and snorkel.

The coral and the fish were amazing and Daniela and I were mesmerised by the beauty and variety of life in the Andaman Sea.

These islands experienced a great deal of damage from the Tsunami in 2004. Now much has been rebuilt and people are returning to take their holidays there.

This issue is dedicated to the beauty of the islands and the sea. Next issue I will tell you more about our time there and show some photos of friends we made and of the celebration of Thailand’s New Year “Songkran”

See you then!

Love

Alan

Happy Easter!

Happy Easter Everyone!

Daniela and I are leaving tonight for our holiday in Phi Phi Thailand.

I have posted today some photos of buildings in Singapore. These first two taken last night are of the new National Museum of Singapore. We went there last night to see a concert of the amazing Whirling Dervishes of Damascus. Click on the link and you can see them. There is a video you can watch. It was excellent. Quite unique.

The other photos are of buildings in the vicinity of Raffles Place and Boat Quay. It was evening time and the sun was setting on one side with dark storm clouds on the other. So the light was particularly attractive.

I hope you enjoy, or have enjoyed, a good Easter break/holiday. My parents tell me the UK has been having some really beautiful weather.

Next posting will be photos from our holiday.

Until then take care.

love

Alan
